Texas Chainsaw Massacre [Oct. 18th, 2004|11:34 am]
for all lovers of film.
[.feeling. |confusedconfused]

Hello All,

Over the weekend I rented the newest version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and enjoyed it very much for a horror/slasher film, however, I have so many questions regarding the beginning "actual footage" and the ending "actual footage". It was always to my understanding that this movie was based on "actual events" and based on the life of Ed Gein but after seeing this supposed actual footage I began wondering if this series of events actually happened. I have tried googling "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" in a number of different ways attempting to pull up some sort of actual police report or a possible news clipping as well as asking my co-workers who lived around that era weather or not this "actual footage" was real or merely a tool used to glorify this version via our friends in Hollywood. Anyway, if anyone knows of a website where I can research actual newspaper articles regarding this subject or... if you know anything about the REAL series of events that occurred in Texas I would be ever so grateful.

Thank you,

Nothing like that ever happened in real life. The inspiration for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was Ed Gein of Wisconsin- he was hardly a serial killer, just a sick fuck who dug up corpses and made himself a female suit out of the skin he took off the bodies. He also dug up his mom, and kept her in the house with him. He killed one woman in a bar, but as far as I know, didn't "do" anything to her. He was the inspiration for Leatherface from TMC (the skin suit and furniture made from human parts), Norman Bates from Psycho (keeping 'Mother' in the hotel) and Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs (the skin suit, etc), but he never did anything like what he inspired the filmmakers to portray. Just a sick, sad, crazy dude with a lot of fuckin' issues.
